What is Botox and why do we use it?

Botox blocks nerve signals to muscles. As a result, injected muscles can’t contract (tense up). These effects are always temporary, but can last for several months. The muscle injected depends on the primary area of concern. Several areas can be treated in one session.

What concerns can Botox treat?

Botox cosmetic injections are used to address signs of ageing. This treatment can smooth fine lines and wrinkles in several areas of your face, including:

Known as the glabella region, the space between your eyebrows can develop vertical lines caused by frowning. Botox treatments help to relax the glabella muscles and reduce the appearance of frown lines.

With visible results within a week of this anti-wrinkle treatment, smoothing horizontal lines and easing developing or visible wrinkles caused by frowning and stress will give you a natural glow and a beautifully refreshed appearance.

Crow’s feet refer to the horizontal lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Addressing wrinkles in this area can make a dramatic difference, giving a rejuvenating effect to the skin around your eyes and softening the appearance of these lines .

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BOTOX TREATMENTS?

How long does the effect of botox last?

On average, the effects usually last for about 3-4 months depending on the treatment area. Eventually the action of the botox will wear off and the nerves will send signals to the muscles to start contracting.

Where can Botox be used?

Depending on what areas you’d like to treat, botox can generally take place in most areas, at Ruma Medispa we tackle the following areas:

  • Frown Lines
  • Forehead
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Migraines
  • Facial Slimming
  • TMJ Jaw Pain

How long is a botox appointment?

A typical botox injection procedure can take 15 minutes, post botox care will be given by your clinician.

What to expect from a botox appointment?

The clinician will walk you through your goals for the treatment and the areas you’d like to address. Before starting any procedure, they’ll ensure the skin in which they’re injecting is clean and free from makeup etc. to minimise the risk of infection and make sure you are comfortable and ready for the procedure. Once the treatment has finished, the clinician will walk you through aftercare and answer any questions or concerns you may have.  Our team at Ruma are here to make sure your treatment is as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Botulinum Toxin, as a muscle relaxant, has an excellent safety record and a long record of use in medicine. It has been used successfully in adults and children in a variety of medical conditions over the last 20 years.

It has been used cosmetically to treat facial wrinkles for about 15 years and has become one of the most popular and frequently used cosmetic treatments.

Like all medicines, Botox® can cause side effects.

The most common side effect is mild discomfort as the needle enters the skin. There is also the possibility of mild bruising and mild swelling, redness, or bleeding at these sites.

Very rarely, other side effects include headaches, local muscle weakness, including drooping or heaviness of the eyelids/eyebrows, brow asymmetry, eyelid swelling, skin tightness, tingling sensations, double-vision, aching/itching, nausea, and flu-like symptoms.

For hyperhidrosis (placed in the underarms), side effects can include a perceived increase in sweating in areas other than the underarms, pain at the injection site, hot flushes, and very rarely transient arm weakness.

For the treatment of jaw pain and masseter muscle reduction using Botox®, possible complications include restriction of a smile, transient drooping of local facial muscles, difficulty in chewing hard food substances, transient neuralgia pain, and very rarely parotid duct stenosis.

Botox injections are relatively painless as the injections are performed using a very fine needle. Patients, therefore, and do not require any anaesthesia.

The full treatment takes about 15-20 minutes to perform, and you are able to drive and go to work the same day.

When the effect of the Botox injection wears off, the wrinkles will always return to their pre-treatment state. Treatments can be repeated at a minimum of three monthly intervals, but the effects may last longer for some individuals, especially if they have had previous treatments in the same area.

Our range of wrinkle-relaxing and Botox treatments produce wonderful results, enhancing your natural beauty and refreshing your skin, so you can enjoy a smooth and naturally youthful glow.
