You should not pull out loose hairs after laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal targets the hair follicle to permanently remove hair from the body. For successful results the follicle has to be present so the laser can target it.

Waxing, plucking or threading removes the root of the hair follicle. Without hair to target, the laser removal process won’t work.

This is why we recommend only shaving the area you’re getting treated the day before your appointment.

Why You Shouldn’t Pull Out Loose Hair After Laser Treatment

Pulling out loose hair after a laser hair removal session is not recommended. It disrupts the hair growth cycle; when hairs are loose it means the hair is in its cycle of removal.

If it’s removed before it dies on its own, it could stimulate hair to grow again. This occurs as when a hair is pulled out at the root, blood is directed to the root to stimulate its regrowth.

This is the opposite of what laser treatment is trying to achieve. By targeting roots to decrease the blood supply to hair follicles to cause them to become weaker, finer and eventually to stop growing.

If you tweeze out hairs, you are disrupting its growth phase, canceling out the treatment you just received to remove it. It can also cause future treatments to be less effective.

It is recommended to leave the treated area alone. A few weeks after treatment, the dead hairs will shed and fall out naturally.

Hair needs to fall out on its own to see the best results from your treatment. Showing signs of a successful laser hair removal as once the hairs shed naturally, the follicle is dead meaning the hair will not regrow.

In addition, pulling out any loose hairs can irate the skin and could cause unwanted side effects such as swelling.

What can I do to control my hair growth between treatments?

10-14 days after your treatment, we recommend shaving the treated areas. With the Soprano Ice laser, hair may shed 2-4 weeks after treatment.

Shaving can help to exfoliate the area, helping to boost shedding and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. Also, allowing you to control hair growth without harming the root of the hair follicles.

Shaving will not affect your laser hair results or impact future treatments. However, hair removal methods such as, threading, waxing or tweezing can impact your treatment and is not recommended while your treatment is ongoing.
